More and more Swedes want to try electric boats

Swedes may have less money in their wallets, but the desire to go boating remains strong - and the desire for electric boats is particularly strong. - "Demand for our electric boats has increased enormously this year," says Axel Nordman at the boat sharing service Skipperi.

A new boating season is here, and Swedes are preparing for a summer at sea. This year, it's not just motorboats and sailboats that are attracting attention - more and more people are turning their attention to electric boats.

The Skipperi membership service, where members can sail as much as they want for a fixed monthly fee, has seen an unusually strong interest in electric boats this season.

- This is where the pressure is greatest. Many people are curious about the technology and the experience, and may have already taken the step to electrification when it comes to cars. Testing electric boats will be the next natural step," says Axel Nordman, CEO of Skipperi Sverige.

The electric boats in question are a specially designed model developed together with the manufacturer Q Yachts. The boat is 7.2 meters long, the engine power is 6kW and the battery has a range of up to 78 nautical miles.

Like electric cars, electric boats are easy on the environment and your wallet. But the real benefit is the silence, says Axel Nordman:

Driving an electric boat is absolutely wonderful, it is a unique experience. The lack of engine noise makes boating more social, as you don't have to drown out any engine, but can instead talk in a normal conversational tone.

Skipperi members can use boats in over 20 different ports in Sweden, as well as in a wide range of other locations around the world. Electric boats are available at Skipperi's harbors at Norr Mälarstrand, Fisksätra and Gåshaga in Stockholm, and at Sannegårdshamnen and Fiskebäck in Gothenburg.

- We launched our first electric boats in 2022 and have been increasing the number since then. Our goal is also to have even more electric boats in the fleet going forward. They are perfect for fully enjoying the amazing experience that boating can be," says Axel Nordman.

Skipperi aims to enable the best aspects of boating for as many people as possible and to make it easy and affordable. The company was founded in Finland in 2017 and currently operates in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, New Zealand, Canada and the United States. Read more at www.skipperi.se
