Support for ports and municipalities wishing to convert

One of the most important deliverables of the go:LEIF project is the Strategy and Guidance Document for Ports and Municipalities. The guidance translates the project's results into practical support for port operators and municipalities. It focuses on building basic knowledge about electric boats and charging, analyzing local conditions, taking early steps with existing infrastructure, and gradually scaling up charging solutions in line with demand and experience.

Ports play a central role in the electrification process. Home ports, guest ports, and destination and service ports have different functions and therefore different charging solution requirements. Pilot installations in Sweden and Norway show that low- and medium-power charging can often be integrated into existing port infrastructure, sometimes in combination with charging for electric vehicles. Shared use of infrastructure can improve utilization rates and lower the threshold for early investments.

The guide also highlights the long-term role of ports as part of the local energy system and clarifies how municipalities can contribute to and accelerate the transition through planning and coordination.

The purpose of this guide is to help ports and municipalities take steps towards electrified boating. The guide discusses how development can take place from the first steps to upscaling.
